Spouse Work Permit

If you are authorized to work in Canada, your accompanying spouse or common law partner may also be able to work in Canada by applying for a work permit based on the temporary permit that has been issued to you (study permit, work permit, etc). Besides submitting a complete application with the right supporting documentations, no other authorization is required.

Open spouse work permit allow your partner to work in any job with any employer. An open work permit also means
that they may be hired without the employer having to obtain a Labour Market Opinion (the normal authorization required). Your partner’s’ work permit will be valid for no longer than the duration of your own temporary work permit.
